Wata Negroni

It is 1919 and we are in Florence at Caffè Giacosa. Cocktail historians say that count Camillo Negroni’s mother brought him back a new bottle of something from one of her travels to London: it was a bottle of gin. Back then the Americano was his favorite cocktail. It is said that he would drink 40 shots of it daily. So he asked the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen it by replacing the soda water with gin thinking it would help him drink a few less rounds.

1972, now in Milan at ‘Bar Basso’. Bartender Mirko Stocchetto mistakenly used sparkling wine instead of gin. They called it Negroni Sbagliato Italian for ‘the mistaken Negroni’. This is our twist on this Italian classic.

How to make this:

  • In an Old Fashioned or Manhattan glass, pour 25ml of Campari.

  • Add 25ml of Vermouth Rosso.

  • Top up with WATA (dry or original according to how sweet you prefer your cocktails).

  • Garnish with a slice of orange.
